Just received another e-mail from timekeeperstories[at]gmail[dot]com:

Spoiler: show

Dear Trusted Friends,

Some of you have contacted me directly, others come recommended from a friend.

I have decided to leave the comfort of my current home and job and travel to Washington D.C. to see if I can track down my father. I was born an American citizen to American parents who are children of Dutch immigrants (confusing, I know). My parents were living overseas when I was born and I have spent a great deal of time both in the United States and abroad.

I don't know if my father is in D.C., I haven't heard from him in a year, but I figure it's a good place to begin my search.

I will need your help in several ways. First of all, my father left behind several clues as to how to contact him in an emergency. These are not straightforward contacts by any stretch of the imagination, rather they are what you might call rabbit holes which lead deeper into more clues. He obviously did not want to make it easy to be found. I do not expect finding him to be a fast or easy process, but I'm hoping for some confirmation that I'm on the right track.

My first task is to find a man my father calls Attis (this is not his real name, of course). I know for sure that he lives and works in Washington, D.C. but I have no idea where to begin looking for him. This is where you come in. My father gave his contacts nicknames as clues to how or where they might be found.

As I travel I will stay in touch via email. If you choose not to receive these emails, please simply reply with the words NO EMAILS in the subject line and I will remove you from my contact list.

For those of you who chose to help, any and all contact is welcome. Thoughts, tips, research, links, more clues, etc. are all welcome. You are also simply welcome to follow along on my journey and see where it leads.

You can read more of my story here:

Best wishes,

GJ

Yep my response back matched Amandel so location and timezone needed.

The POE area has been removed and replaced with an agent area which is currently under construction:

http://www.timekeeperstories.com/agents.html

So you know who I am, I went with Hermes (the divine trickster ;D)

Also in the regards to the as yet unused YONOFF, I wondered if it linked back to the three light bulbs on one of the original tweets and the home page of time keepers but changing the 0's to 1's in the designation000 site resulted in no new leads.

And a new mail from Georgia:

Spoiler: show
Dear Trusted Friends,

My first day in D.C. was strange and also somewhat productive. I landed at Dulles and was greeted by my dear friend Mari who lives nearby and will be working with me during this trip.

As we headed to the car rental office she asked about our agenda.

"I have two tips already," I said, "The U.S. Botanic Garden and the Sphinx club."

Mari laughed. "Well, the Garden is lovely and we can go there today, but the Sphinx club is going to require a reservation, and it's probably booked up for quite awhile. I'll talk to my friend Jonah about it--he sometimes knows how to jump the line at places like that."

After stopping to use the restrooms, we waited in line at the rental office.

"What's the status on Designation 000?" Mari asked.

"Well," I said, "I may have a few potential contacts who live nearby, but I may also assign them to other important locations in that area."

"I see. What's the other Designation?"

"We're still working on 000."

"Sounds good. And what did you say the name was that is your clue to finding your father's friend?"

"Attis."

"Hmmmm...interesting. Well, I'll give that some thought and pass it along to Jonah too. He has a mind for that type of thing."

We finally got to the front of the line and got our car. I took the keys and headed out to the parking lot, Mari close behind. When we got to our car I handed her the keys and told her to drive, since she is not only a better driver but more familiar with the area. She hadn't brought her own vehicle, of course.

Just as I was tossing my small bag into the backseat a woman came running toward us.

"Excuse me! Excuse me Ms. Jonasen!"

I turned. "Yes?"

"I have a message for you. The call just came in."

"Somebody called the rental office?"

"Yes."

"Who?"

"They didn't say. They just wanted me to pass along a message."

"What is it?" I asked anxiously.

"You can't put a lid on liberty."

"You can't put a lid on liberty?"

"That's correct. Does it mean anything to you?" she asked.

I hesitated. "Um, no, but I understand the nature of the message. Thank you very much."

The girl turned to go. Mari and I looked at each other, shrugged, and got in the car to begin our day.

To be continued...

Title: Re: Timekeepers
Post by: Russell on August 18, 2017, 12:13:27 PM
I wonder if we may be directing them to the capitol building:

In 1854, when sculptor Thomas Crawford was preparing models for sculpture for the United States Capitol, Secretary of War Jefferson Davis (later to be the President of the Confederate States of America) insisted that a Phrygian cap not be included on a Statue of Freedom, on the grounds that "American liberty is original and not the liberty of the freed slave". The cap was not included in the final bronze version that is now in the building.

You cant but a lid (....phrygian cap) on liberty....???

Well if it turns out that the capitol building is correct then the two link in to each other since the reason that the statue of freedom atop it doesnt have the phrygian cap is because slaves were historically given the cap on Manumission and the slave Jefferson Davis thought it an absolute affront that this symbol of emancipation could be displayed for all to see.

The first thing Mari and I did was head to the US Botanic Gardens on a tip from a friend. After wandering around for a bit we went to the gift shop and asked about Attis. Nobody had any idea what we were talking about.

However, later, when we went to have lunch, we encountered a pretty strong clue. Somebody left a postcard on our windshield, wedged under one of the windshield wipers, which gave us both a start.

"Are we being followed?" Mari asked, alarmed.

"Possibly," I said, pulling the post card out and looking at it carefully. "But if we are being followed it might be by a friend rather than a foe. This is a post card of a statue of Attis wearing a Phrygian cap."

"Oh!" Mari exclaimed. "Where is the statue located?"

"This particular statue is at the Louvre."

"Paris! How can that be? I thought we were supposed to look in D.C."

"Don't worry," I said, "I think we're supposed to be in D.C. I'm certainly not jetting off to France. I think this is just another clue. I knew it wouldn't be easy to find my father. I'm expecting a long and winding road with lots of twists and turns."

Mari nodded. "Okay, well let's go eat and put our heads together to see if we can solve this."

Agree 100% with your above *spoiler*, Es. Nice Russell, hope you succeed in sleuthing out the 2nd consonant/letter (??)

**Humming Long and Winding Road** due to GJ's email posted above. Believe the Attis statue in the Louvre is the Terracotta one from Tarsus. A "tarsus" is also a major segment of a beetle's (and some other insects) leg. Naha, didn't want to send GJ off to some esoteric Entomology museum (...admit my own bug fascination  :D) so I reread the email and feel I may have found a subtle lead from the PM.

There, GJ says she's "expecting a long and winding road". When I googled "beetles/beatles" and Washington DC the surprise was an entire Wiki subsection for the Washington Coliseum, the venue for the Beatles' first US concert. Just leaving this conjecture here 'til we all catch a breath from the puzzle at hand for more discussion. Title: Re: Timekeepers

(Hi, jumping in after lurking for a while. Hope that's okay)
The special theory of relativity has to do with objects in relation to eqch other when moving at a constant speed. General relativity was the theory proven by an eclipse. General theory states that the mass of an object warps the spacetime around it, so light should not be able to travel in a straight line, instead it should curve slightly from gravitational forces.
Title: Re: Timekeepers
Post by: Russell on August 21, 2017, 04:32:17 PM
OK so i tweeted both types of eclipse and both types of relativity although no update to the page (although both liked by timekeeper so they have seen it), so what are we missing?  They are also two types of theory....?
Title: Re: Timekeepers
Post by: Escobar on August 21, 2017, 04:55:24 PM
I still think youre on the right track with that general and special relativity... Like Apis said the general theory is proven by an eclipse.
Just assume they just didnt get around to answer us yet. Otherwise, they had sent an email about the fact that the given answer is wrong.

Just hold in there  ;D

I do feel the game emerges a bit too slow though, but on the other hand... am an impatience creature :)

Dear Trusted Friends,

Thank you for your patience. Mari and I have been busy running all over D.C. and we've scarcely had time to breathe.

When we arrived at the Capital on Sunday things were a bit crazy. They were about to close and there was a long line to pass through the metal detectors. While we were patting ourselves to make sure we didn't have any metal objects hidden away, an elderly man in front of us asked us what we were doing there. I threw all caution to the wind and told him we were looking for a man named Attis. He nodded and smiled patiently as I told him my story, but then just as we arrived at the front of the line he gave us a wink, turned on his heel, and ran. And let me tell you, he was quite nimble for an elderly man!

Mari and I just looked at each other, shrugged, and chased after him. It was like something from a comedy. We caught sight of him up ahead, running down the street, weaving and bobbing in and out among the throng of pedestrians. At one point we almost lost him, but then we caught up with him in front of an ice cream shop.

He stopped abruptly, threw up his hands, and said, "Well, ladies, you caught me. Now I will buy you an ice cream."

Astonished, we followed him into the shop, figuring it was a public place and he was a rather small and frail-looking man. Surely he couldn't do much harm to us here?

After ordering our ice cream we sat at a corner table. I leaned forward and whispered, "Are you Attis?"

He chucked. "Oh, my dear. Oh, no. No, I am not. But I think I know who might be able to find him."

I sat back with relief and ate some of my ice cream. "Well, that's something."

"In fact, I will tell you a wonderful story about Attis, but first you need to do me an enormous favor."

"What is that?"

"Tomorrow I want to see the eclipse, and also a historical site that has some personal meaning for me. Will you accompany me tomorrow to Washington Union Station? I can meet you in the morning outside my hotel."

We agreed to meet him and he gave us his information. This morning, Monday, we showed up wondering if he would be there. He was there in a dapper-looking suit, incongruously carrying a backpack and a pair of eclipse glasses. We were about to spend the day with a total stranger, and, I hoped, find out more about Attis.

Virginia Woolf is one of the main characters in The Hours.

I decided to see if the real Virginia had written anything about time. Turned up this quote: "Time, unfortunately, though it makes animals and vegetables bloom and fade with amazing punctuality, has no such simple effect upon the mind of man. The mind of man, moreover, works with equal strangeness upon the body of time. An hour, once it lodges in the queer element of the human spirit, may be stretched to fifty or a hundred times its clock length; on the other hand, an hour may be accurately represented on the timepiece of the mind by one second."
So, more about time being subjective.

The image on the post it note may also just be a pictorial representation of the curvature of peacetime around an object such as a planet. Not sure where that leads us though.

If it is a horizon and we are "moving through" it then we have black hole related threads to follow.

To be continued...

Sorry, Amandel, I made a Twitter like 4 years ago, logged in once, and then forgot all of my info and never logged in again. I don't know if I even have access to the right email address anymore ^_^||

This is probably a lot of nothing, but I was looking around for possible connections to Long and Winding Road, and it looks it was released in 1970.
Other things that happened during 1970:
Spoiler: show
Niels Bohr had already been deceased for 8 yrs. But Aage Bohr, Niels's son, won the H.C. Ørsted Medal for his work in physics (couldn't find much specific without spending too much time on it, and I have class to study for, whoops) and he stepped down from being head of the Niels Bohr Institute that year. At the same time Stephen Hawking "published a proof that if the universe obeys the general theory of relativity and fits any of the models of physical cosmology developed by Alexander Friedmann, then it must have begun as a singularity." (I tried /singularity on D000, no dice.) I'll  try looking more into on Friedmann and Hawking's work in 1970 later.

ETA: also, "In 1970, Hawking postulated what became known as the second law of black hole dynamics, that the event horizon of a black hole can never get smaller"

Edit #2 because procrastination is fun: "just as in the law of thermodynamics," --D000/atom page. The laws of black hole dynamics "seek to reconcile the laws of thermodynamics with the existence of black-hole event horizons."

New email from Georgia: "Eclipsed"

Spoiler: show
Dear Trusted Friends,

Even a partial eclipse is a reason for awe. Seeing the cool disk of the moon begin to slide in front of the bright eye of our solar system is a both lovely and troublesome.

We watched the eclipse with the elderly man, who told us to call him Hans. He told us the story of how people reacted to the eclipse in ancient times. There was fear and retribution and bloodshed. People prayed and made sacrifices. People wept and even stared at the sun until they were blind.

But there were always scientists, as far back as there is a record of history, who knew why eclipses happened and who created mathematical formulas to predict them.

Just as there are scientists now who might be able to understand and even predict strange phenomena.

What if those scientists knew something was going to happen, and didn't tell us about it? What then?

We laughed and told Hans that he was pretty crazy. He just shrugged and told us that when he was doing research back in the nineties he met a man who called himself Attis. He believed that he now lived in the United States and was a hermit, but that he still communicated with people through the dark web.

"What in the hell is the dark web?" Mari asked.

"I'm not sure," I said, "but I'm guessing something like Silk Road?"

"What?" said Mari "I heard that guy went to prison for life. I'm not messing around with any dark web."

Hans chuckled. "It's okay. I know a guy. We'll go there later this week. Meet me at the coffee shop across from my hotel on Thursday and I'll take you there. He may be able to contact Attis this way."

We agreed to meet.

To be continued...

EDIT: The latest "designation" page has been modified to include a list of numbers, imo year dates. Cyas...
Title: Re: Timekeepers
Post by: Russell on August 25, 2017, 04:15:28 PM
Based on some of the dates in that list:

1514, Johann Werner of Nuremberg suggested using the Moon as an astronomical clock.

1687 - Newton publishes principia mathematica

1884 - First International Meridian Conference

1894 - French anarchist Martial Bourdin attempts to destroy the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, London, England, with a bomb, killing himself instead.

1913 - Portuguese adopt Meridian time

Am looking at a link with the other dates.
Title: Re: Timekeepers
Post by: Escobar on August 25, 2017, 06:07:54 PM
Here is my list, some are different from yours, but maybe we are both right :)

1514   Establishment of Leonardo da Vinci, who concentrates on scientific research at the Cortile del Belvedere in Rome.
1687   Isaac Newton's the Principia, is published by the Royal Society of London. In it, Newton describes his theory of universal gravitation, explains the laws of mechanics (including Newton's laws of motion), gives a formula for the speed of sound and demonstrates that Earth is an oblate spheroid. The concepts in the Principia become the foundations of modern physics.
1884   International Meridian Conference in Washington, D.C. fixes the Greenwich meridian as the world's prime meridian
1894   Syzygy: Mercury transits the Sun as seen from Venus, and Mercury and Venus both simultaneously transit the Sun as seen from Saturn.
1913   Niels Bohr presents his quantum model of the atom
1915   Bohr atomic model with elliptic orbits
1916   Relativity theory by Einstein
1922   Niels Bohr wins Nobelprize for physics
1927   Fritz London and Walter Heitler apply quantum mechanics to explain covalent bonding in the hydrogen molecule, which marks the birth of quantum chemistry.
1930   The Moon moves into perigee at the same time as the lunar phase reaches its fullest. This is the closest moon distance and it will not come closer until 2257
1941   Chemical element 94, plutonium, is first synthesized, but was kept a secret / Virginia Woolf commits suicide
1945   The first atomic bomb was detonated in the New Mexico
2012   The discovery of the Higgs boson
2015   Gravitational waves, Einstein's ripples in spacetime, spotted for first time

THX. Those lists are awesome. Am stymied why they're attached to Virginia Woolf quote or why the email above ends with another quote. Still, possibly we're looking for "A Room of One's Own", meaning OUR own room on the web 'tho I've had zero luck searching.

The latest email is titled "Selected for the particular circumstances". That's the mathematics definition of parameter.
The last line seems cluey. Also, there's a letter string cipher/code ending http://www.timekeeperstories.com/blog/the-target (http://www.timekeeperstories.com/blog/the-target)

Spoiler: show
Hans introduced us to his friend Ele, a twenty-something woman who wore all black, including copious amounts of eye make-up, and who looked like a throwback to the nineties, complete with combat boots. She took us to her apartment where she lived with several anti-social cats and many computer monitors. After getting on her computer and surfing around a bit she logged into a chatroom she called a virtual dark corner. The chatroom was empty and she waited for someone to show up. Finally, she started typing in a chat window and began bouncing around in her seat. "I can't believe this! I can't believe it!" she said.

"Who is it?" I asked, leaning forward and trying to see. "Is it Attis?"

"No, my god, even better."

"Who?"

"Well, he doesn't really go by any name."

"What do you mean? How do you know who you're talking to?"

"Let's just say he lives here."

"Here? Where?"

She nodded toward the screen.

"In your computer?"

She burst out laughing. "No, no, nothing like that. Listen, do you like poetry?"

I had no idea where this was going but decided to play along. "Sure."

"You know about metaphors, similes, all that?"

"Of course! I mean, I did go to college."

"Think of him has a metaphor."

"Is that his name? Metaphor?"

She shook her head impatiently. "No, no. You still don't get it. You're being WAY too literal."

"Okay, okay. I see. In that case, let me take some notes so I can think about this later. Is that okay?"

"That's better."

"He lives in the dark web?"

"Yes."

"Does he know Attis?"

She turned and typed into the chat window. When the response came back she turned to me and said, "Yes."

"Can he tell me where I can find Attis?"

She shrugged. "He said to bring him something. Something he likes."

"What does he like?"

She shrugged again.

"Can't you ask him?"

"No, he's gone now. I'm amazed that he even spoke to me at all."

"Can I share this information with others?"

"Like who?"

"I have people helping me find my father."

"Do they know the whole story? About your father?"

I shook my head.

"Well, maybe they wouldn't help you if they knew."

"They will know everything soon enough." I said.

Ele looked at me strangely for a long time time and said, "It's already too late."

"I know, but sometimes we feel better when we think we there is still action to be taken and lives to be saved," I said.

She frowned, then asked, "Do you think there is still action to be taken?"

I hesitated and then said, "Yes."

"Time is a circle and all that bullshit?"

I smiled, "Or, I guess you could say, time is a web."

talking of webs:

Spoiler: show
http://designation000.com/spider.html

Three more definitions of parameter.

Also some info on Trivium, Quadrivium and philosophy:

Firstly the trivium, consisting of grammar, logic and rhetoric. This was followed by the quadrivium consisting of arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy. In turn, the quadrivium was considered preparatory work for the study of philosophy (sometimes called the "liberal art par excellence") and theology.

No luck on the cipher yet though =(

WOW Escobar, you're now my official blackmail letter writer! Betcha GJ would be interested, too. Am still pondering the symmetry of 23letters~Z~23letters(maybe 2x a 24hours clock?). And re Z this is my best guess: "Zulu Time is the name for the letter Z in the ICAO spelling alphabet, a reference to the equivalent nautical time zone (GMT), which has been denoted by a Z since about 1950."

Why more Beatles in spider.html (nice find R)? Please, GJ "Let It Be". Finally, new blog:http://www.timekeeperstories.com/blog/keep-time (http://www.timekeeperstories.com/blog/keep-time)

**Edit 2 - New email

Spoiler: show
Closer to Attis

Dear Trusted Friends,

Had a "meeting" with Spider, which was really just an encrypted chat using a PGP chat program. Found out that while Attis is still the end goal (and nobody knows where he is--yet), we might have overlooked some important information about Hans, chiefly WHY he wanted to meet at Washington Union Station and what link that might have to my mission to find my father.

Essentially, Spider told us that Hans knows much more than he let on.

Mari and I went back to the hotel where Hans was staying, only to find out that he checked out over the weekend. The concierge played dumb as to where he went but then said coyly, "I could leave a message, in case he checks back with us for some reason. Which I'm sure he won't." I went ahead and gave him the Time Keepers email address and alerted my staff that he may try to contact us that way.

Meanwhile, Spider is planning to meet us at the National Museum of Natural History later this afternoon.

I'm excited because I love dinosaur bones and old pots and being in a museum makes me feel as if nothing is real.
